How to prepare your books for donation
There are two types of containers: drop slots or walk-ins.
For drop slot containers, be prepared to deposit books one-by-one.
For walk-in containers, books should first be packed into cardboard cartons or boxes.
Boxes must either have a lid or flaps that close securely over the contents.
Books should be packed reasonably tight in boxes with little to no empty air inside, so that the boxes will stack securely on top of each other. Sawed or ripped off half cartons that leave the books partially exposed are not acceptable, nor can we take books in plastic or paper bags.
Please make sure the books are not packed in overly large boxes; we don't want anyone to get a hernia lifting them! Each box shouldn't weigh more than about forty pounds.
Appropriately sized boxes that are not too large can be obtained for free from liquor stores, supermarkets, and even stores like Staples (copy paper boxes which have lids serve very well for this purpose). Empty produce boxes used for packing apples, bananas, and potatoes obtained from grocery stores are excellent as long as they have a lid.
