How to prepare your books for donation

There are two types of containers: drop slots or walk-ins.
For drop slot containers, be prepared to deposit books one or two at a time through the slot inside the container.

For walk-in containers, books should first be packed into cardboard cartons or boxes.

Please note that almost all of our book collection containers are drop slot bins that require direct deposit of books one or two at a time through the slot. There are only FOUR walk in containers ( at the Barnstable, Milton and Natick Massachusetts recycling centers and at the rear of Cummings Office Park off Washington Street in Woburn Massachusetts ) where books can be deposited in boxes. If you bring your books in boxes to a drop slot container, please take away your emptied boxes after dropping the books through the slot into the container. Please do not leave any books either separately or in boxes or bags outside any of our containers as they will likely be ruined by we weather before we can collect them. If you find a container that is too full to allow you to deposit your books inside the container then please call us toll free (888) 402-BOOK or email us at info@readingtree.org and give us the location of the container that needs to be emptied. We will empty it within 48 hours. You can use the container locator function on this website to find an alternate bin near you to deposit your books or if you wish you can wait until the bin you found full has been emptied. In any event, do not leave your books outside the container.
